Woman of Note Exhibit at Community Center

More than a dozen women who have influenced the history of Ulster County are honored in a traveling exhibit, Ulster County Woman of Note, on display at the Mescal Hornbeck Community Center in Woodstock through December 26, 2017. The late illustrator Maud Petersham of Woodstock, community activist Marie Post of Saugerties, and suffragist Sojourner Truth, born in Esopus, are among the women featured. The exhibit may be seen during regularly scheduled town meetings and events at the Community Center.

Many organizations, including the Historical Society of Woodstock, have provided photos and biographies for the exhibit, a collaborative project between the Ulster County Historical Society and the Ellenville Public Library, funded by a grant from New York Humanities. Historical records were provided by the Ulster County Archives.

The Community Center is the traveling exhibit's 10th venue this year. The Woodstock visitation is co-sponsored by the Ulster County Historical Society and the Historical Society of Woodstock. Ulster County Woman of Note was organized by UCHS Administrative Director Suzanne Hauspurg, who received an Award of Distinction from Greater Hudson Valley Heritage Network for her work on this project, which included the show-stopping Suffrage March on the Rondout Waterfront in October ++
